How to get the most for your old phone

Selling privately usually pays more; store trade-in is faster and safer.
Launch season (September for iPhone, February–March for Samsung) brings trade-in bonuses. Ask about them.
Clean the phone and keep the box: it helps more than you'd think.
Back up, sign out of iCloud or your Samsung/Google account, and factory reset before handing it over.
